First Aid Kit, Tiger Mountain Peasant Song (Fleet Foxes cover)

Everybody’s been posting about this video of First Aid Kit, a Swedish sister duo signed to The Knife’s Rabid Records, and their Fleet Foxes cover. I’ve been listening to it all day thanks to an mp3 GvsB posted this morning. There’s something about when sisters sing where the harmonies come together better than two unrelated people can combine their voices. Anyways, enjoy the prettiness.

The Walkmen, In The New Year

Nosferatu-inspired video from The Walkmen and director Norman Coady. I keep meaning to get this album, but I always forget. I’ve enjoyed the few tracks I’ve heard. Anyone out there got an opinion on it?

Of Montreal, Nonpareil of Favor

Just squeezing in under the wire as I get ready to leave work is this awesome new track by Of Montreal. It comes off the upcoming (Oct. 7th, ya’ll) Skeletal Lamping album, and man, it’s all over the place. In just under six minutes, it manages to cram in all kinds of crazy different “movements.” Dance dance psychedelia.

joecarryon:

This is my favorite performance of my favorite song from an underrated band’s underrated best — so says I, anyway — album. “Strange News From Another Star” by Blur (off 1997’s self titled affair).

Simply put, it’s possibly the best non-Bowie penned or sung Bowie song of all time.

Agreed on all sides. Except that the self-titled album was the best. I’m a Parklife boy all the way.

This post was reblogged from In A Regal Age Ran I.

Sondre Lerche and Regina Spektor, Hell No

Why did no one tell me that the two cutest crooners in the world had gotten together and recorded a song? I somehow completely missed the fact that Lerche and Spektor did this for the Dan In Real Life soundtrack. As far as the song goes, it’s nothing too fancy. A really, straightforward standard-esque sound. But that’s ok because the real focus hear is these two beautiful voices coming together. I’ve seen both of them in concert before, and they’re both amazing. I want a whole album of this stuff now. And a tour. And for them to make little crooning babies and start a jazz lounge version of the Partridge family. Seriously, look at these two. Those would be some super cute babies. Talk about crooners and swooners.

The World Record, Serious

Man, it was tough picking out a favorite new song of the day today. Did I go with the new Matt & Kim hotness, a new T.I. track teaming up with Kanye, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and sampling MIA, a new Horse Feathers jam, or that new old Portastic song? But in the end, I was won over by the power pop grandeur of LA’s The World Record. These guys are damn good. Think the melodies of Fountains of Wayne (the good stuff), the twang of Old 97s, add a heavy dose of Big Star of course, and pretend they got the guy who produced Spoon’s “Underdog” behind the boards. Best is, you can stream their whole album Guitars, Forever! at their myspace.

Paul Burton, So Very Hard To Make It (Without You)

OK, so I’m playing in not one but two awesome tribute bands this Saturday, but I’m still pretty upset that I have to miss the first show in 34 years for former local funk soul brother Paul Burton. This is my favorite track off the amazing Carolina Funk compilation, and as I said before, one of the best baby-come-back-to-me songs ever. Enjoy.

I’m pretty sure that this is a picture of Burton and Co., but even if I’m wrong, it’s still too awesome not to post.

Ra Ra Riot, Ghost Under Rocks

The new Annuals/Arcade Fire/Broken Social Scene? You decide America! I happen to enjoy the heck out of it, myself.
